Whether you're looking for an alternative style, experimenting a hair color, adding some length to your locks, or transitioning from relaxed to natural and want a healthy, protective style that still allows versatility, weaves and extensions can help you achieve that.
Women of all races and ethnicities can enjoy the versatility and benefits weaves and extensions have to offer. When you buy good quality hair that matches your hair texture, along with a weave expert (like myself) to apply it the right way, you'll fall in love with wearing extensions!
There are many weaving techniques to achieve the style you desire. Fortunately, extensions allow you to customize your look based on hair concerns, or a look you want now, rather than waiting for your hair to grow the necessary length to achieve it. Today, I'll discuss the most common technique; Sew-in weaves.
A proper sew-in, which involves braiding your hair down into a base foundation for the extension weft to be sewn on, requires 4 major components to create a flawless, undetectable, believable look:
1. A flat, neat, small but not tight braiding foundation, to ensure the sew-in isn't lumpy and to give the sew-in the illusion of real hair.
2. An adequate amount of your own hair left out around the perimeter of the head and the crown, to create a natural part and allow multiple styles.
3. A net cap sewn on top of the braid base to give the wefts of the extension a versatile, flat base to be sewn on, as well as good quality thread to prevent breakage or damage to your hair.
4. A neat, secure sewing technique while applying the wefts, to ensure the extensions stay in place, the sew-in lasts longer, and so the client is able to remove the sew-in later on without cutting or breaking the hair.
When these important steps are taken, you should achieve a versatile, natural looking, healthy sew-in. No matter the length, the sew-in should look believable!
